We are pleased to introduce a new firmware for our Nitrokey NitroPads. Version 2.2 fixes an important bug that prevented the NitroPad NV41 from entering sleep mode. Also, there is now a splash screen during boot.
KeePassXC is the most popular open source password manager for Windows, macOS and Linux. The new version 2.7.6 allows to protect password stores not only with a master password, but to encrypt and unlock password stores with a Nitrokey 3 instead. This not only increases security but also makes KeePassXC easier to use. KeePassXC can be downloaded for free here.
We are pleased to provide a brief update on the progress of the Nitrokey App 2. In response to user feedback, we have expanded the functionality of the app. In the latest version v2.1.2, you can now manage one-time passwords (OTP) on your Nitrokey 3 device, supporting both HOTP and TOTP.
In this blog post we explore how Nitrokey's FIDO2 security keys can revolutionize attendance tracking solutions, providing enhanced security with reduced costs.
Besides numerous bug fixes, the latest firmware 1.5.0 allows to securely store classic (so-called static) passwords in the Nitrokey 3. Furthermore, it is now possible to unlock KeepassXC with a Nitrokey 3. However, support in KeepassXC is still missing.
This week we were able to ship several hundred Nitrokey 3C NFC. That was one or two such boxes full of shipments every day. We are now "only" a year behind, so we are shipping orders from April 2022 right now. The best news, however, is that the production process is finally dialed in. From the last batch of 500 pcs, we had only one failure!
The new Nitrokey App 2 will be the central management solution for all Nitrokey 3 devices in the future. It is designed to be modern and intuitive to use. Simply connect your Nitrokey 3 to the computer and the graphical interface will automatically detect the device and guide you through the firmware update process. The app is available for Windows and Linux and will also support macOS in a future release.
The firmware releases formerly known as "alpha" are now called "test" releases to describe the character of the releases more precisely. This is firmware that contains functions that are not yet fully developed. The current release 1.3.1-test.20230417 contains the OpenPGP Card functionality and a still very experimental PIV card implementation.
The latest firmware for the Nitrokey 3 in version 1.3.1 is now available. A central change is the file format which is used for the update of all Nitrokey 3. For this it is mandatory to update to a current pynitrokey version (>= 0.4.35), without this the update will fail.
Most important changes:
Shipments of the Nitrokey 3C NFCs are in full swing. The targeted production volume goal has not yet been reached yet, but we are steadily working our way through pre-orders. The challenge is reliable soldering of the USB-C connector in the Nitrokey.
