Now Available: NitroPads V54, V56 With 14th CPU Generation

The new secure laptop models V54 and V56 announced last month are now in stock and can be ordered directly from our online store. However, this only applies to the models without NVIDIA graphics card and with Dasharo Coreboot Tianocore/UEFI. The models with NVIDIA GPU are expected to be available from the beginning of September. The porting of the Heads firmware is expected to take a few more months and there is no planned availability date yet.

Both NitroPads feature the latest high-performance hardware:

  • 14th generation Intel processor with a maximum of 4.8 GHz
  • Up to 96 GB, fast DDR5 RAM
  • Two NVMe SSD PCIe Gen4 with a maximum of 4 TB
  • Optional Nvidia graphics card/GPU
  • Screen size: 14“ (V54) or 16” (V56)

As is usual for NitroPads, these have additional security features:

  • Firmware Dasharo Coreboot or Heads with long-term software updates
  • Security via Measured Boot to detect Evil Maid attacks and other system manipulations (requires Heads)
  • Intel Management Engine (ME) can be deactivated
  • Pre-installed Ubuntu Linux or Qubes OS (optional)

IME "can be" disabled. This is the key feature for me to purchase this laptop. So could you explain more, it must be mentioned at time of ordering for this to be done for me? Or there will be instructions for me to do this when I receive laptop? Or how does it work, and how can I guarantee it has been done? Thanks!
The mechanism is known as disabling through the HAP bit, which has been the preferred method since IME 11. This approach draws inspiration from me_cleaner, with documentation available on a wiki detailing various implementation methods. For this specific laptop model, the feature is accessible as a menu option in the UEFI/EDK2 firmware settings. Successful implementation can be verified by the absence of the HECI PCIe device, with additional analysis tools available in the coreboot repository. The HEADS variant does come with an "hard-wired" disabled IME.
