NextBox OS Update: Ready for All Users

We are excited to announce that the latest NextBox OS update has successfully completed its testing phase and is now ready for all users. This update brings numerous improvements in terms of security, performance, and compatibility.

Testing Phase Completed

As many of you know, we initiated a testing phase for the OS update in our previous NextBox blog post. Your feedback and reports have been invaluable in ensuring a smooth and stable update process. The Nextcloud platform, which forms the core of NextBox, has proven its resilience throughout this process.

 

Update Process

We strongly recommend all users to update their NextBox. This gives you the opportunity to create manual backups and address any unforeseen issues that might arise. To update:

  1. Go to the system settings in your NextBox app.
  2. Navigate to the "NextBox System Update" section and click "Update" and follow the instructions.

The update will start automatically from there. No further interaction is required.

In approximately 4 weeks, we will automatically update any remaining NextBoxes that haven't been manually updated. This ensures all users benefit from the latest improvements and security enhancements.

Moin! Wie lange dauert den so ein Update? Nach wenigstens 5 Stunden blinkt die LED grün. Der Zugriff über den Browser ist erfolglos: Fehler: "Verbindung fehlgeschlagen. Beim Verbinden mit xxx.yyy.zz trat ein Fehler auf." Lokal kann ich die Box anpingen, aber per ssh geht nix. Irgendwelche Ideen?? Danke & Schönes Wochenende. Gruß Marckus

Does this update also enable the use of collaboration online or only office?

Is it possible to update this manually through CLI? Trying to backup the system, backup fails! I also tried manual update twice, and it also fails, braking the system. Since there are no error messages, I have no idea, where the things collapse.
Please contact us through support (at) nitrokey (dot) com - and include your order number (SOxxxxxx) - there we can help you in more detail. Generally there should be a `/var/log/nextbox-update-debian.log` which keeps the output of the update process .... furthermore there is a `/usr/bin/nextbox-update-debian.sh` which is the script to update the system executed once you run click the update button.
Hello, /usr/bin/nextbox-update-debian.sh worked perfectly. The system updated and everything seems ok. Should I try the backup, or is there something I should do first. Thanks!
As of today we do not recommend to use the NextBox-built-in Backup/Restore mechanism - the solution offered by Nextcloud is superior and more robust, thus we recommend using this one: Backup App - the older built-in Backup will be switched off sooner or later.
has there ever been any official announcement that the backup solution in the NextBox app is being dropped? If so, I guess there were some details about how to use the Backup App you mentioned. Please pass me the link to this post, as I can't find it right now. I tried using the Backup App but had no success so far on selecting my connected hard disk as a backup location.
Nope, there has not been an official announcement until today. So no worries, it won't go away too soon - now that the bigger chunked recent updates are done, there is time to work towards this. But you can be sure that there will be at least a blog post, a banner on the backup&restore page and many months of time for the migration.
