Nitrokey 3 Status Update

So far, we have produced and shipped a few hundred Nitrokey 3C NFC (i.e. the ones with the USB-C connector). However, production has not yet ramped up as we had originally planned. This is because there are still problems soldering the USB-C connector reliably. To fix this, we have already improved the production process in several iterations. We expect to be able to solve the problem in the next few weeks and then ramp up production. Thus, the complete delivery of all pre-ordered Nitrkey 3C NFC will be postponed by a few weeks.

Hat ja auch was gutes, dass ich noch keine Versandbestätigung bekommen habe :) Warte ich eben noch was länger, hab dafür aber ne robustere/bessere Variante. Und noch ist Firmwaretechnisch ja auch noch Luft nach oben, kann das Ding also sowieso noch nicht in vollem Umfang nutzen.

Hi - kann man einige Wochen genauer eingrenzen - wenn man wie ich seit Oktober 2021 darauf wartet wären genauere Infos wünschenswert.

Hab ich volles Verständnis für, aber gerade aufgrund der Unsicherheit wie schnell wir das mit unserem Zulieferer stabilisieren/reparieren können wäre es unverantwortlich von uns. Wir werden Dich/Euch updaten sobald wir mehr Planungssicherheit haben.

Vor über einem Jahr Vorbestellungen anzunehmen war aber nicht unverantwortlich? Komisches Management muss ich sagen Vorbestellungen und natürlich Geld hat man gerne eingesammelt, ob und wann geliefert wird ist aber unverantwortlich zu sagen, nachdem mehrmals teilweise monatelang mit einem süffisanten Blogposting mit einem Satz der Termin verschoben wurde?

Is there any way for us to know how many pre-orders there were and how many units still have to be produced before my unit is shipped? Given the repeated delays it would be nice to have a better handle on this.

This wouldn't help you much currently. Our last target for all pre-orders (end of Februar) was a realistic one, if the batches would have arrived as planned. Once we get the production under control at our supplier it won't take long for the pre-orders to be fully shipped. Please understand that we cannot share commercial company details like the amount of pre-orders publicly.

This is starting to get really ridiculous. I get my nitrokey before the end of the month, otherwise you pay me back and I'll buy a yubikey.

nitrokey 3 does require an open source and data privacy enthusiasm and early adopter spirit that should be rewarded by the company, e.g. by a lottery of free nitrokey 2 pro under all preorders placed prior to end 02/2023. Anyway its rather a product for hardcore linux console guys than my mother in law on her windows pc

Vor ca. 1,5 Jahren habe ich den Nitrokey 3C NFC bestellt und bezahlt. Bis heute habe ich von Nitrokey keinerlei Information erhalten, ob ich den Key noch erhalte und wenn ja, wann? Vielleicht wurde er auch schon geliefert und ich war nicht daheim und der Postbote hat das Päckchen in der Altpapiertonne abgelegt. (Ist bei uns schon vorgekommen!) Man weiß es halt nicht...

Ansonsten kann ich deinen Ärger gut nachvollziehen, aktuell kann ich leider auch nur um Geduld bitten.

Das klingt jetzt aber nicht, als sei eine Auslieferung im Dezember bzw. Ende Februar, oder auch im März jemals realistisch gewesen.
