Nitrokey 3 Firmware Update 1.0.4

Heute haben wir für den Nitrokey 3 ein neues Firmware-Update 1.0.4 veröffentlicht. Dieses Update bringt die folgenden Änderungen:

  • Verbesserte Stabilität unter Windows 10: Der Nitrokey 3 arbeitet zuverlässiger für Windows 10 Benutzer.
  • Verbesserte Kompatibilität mit OpenSSH: Wenn Sie OpenSSH mit residenten Schlüsseln verwenden, können Sie jetzt die gespeicherten Schlüssel mit `ssh-add -K` abrufen.
  • Konsistentes LED-Verhalten: Das LED-Verhalten wurde geändert, um dem Verhalten der Nitrokey FIDO2-Geräten zu entsprechen. Dies macht es einfacher, die LED-Signale zu unterscheiden. Das neue Verhalten ist:
    • Die LED ist standardmäßig ausgeschaltet.
    • Wenn der Nitrokey 3 angeschlossen wird, blinkt die LED einmal weiß.
    • Wenn der Benutzer einen Vorgang durch Berühren der Touch-Taste des Nitrokey 3 bestätigen muss, blinkt die LED weiß, bis die Taste gedrückt wird oder der Vorgang abgelaufen ist.

yes, this is progressing quite good, we'll waiting for last confirmations, please wait until next Friday (5.8.) - there will be a blog post about this then.

Great news and thank you for the great work. Even with FIDO2 one can do a lot, such as OpenSSH, WebAuthn etc. Looking forward to the next releases

Good morning, is there any possibility to use the Nitrokey Update Tools for Windows without local administrator rights? We are considering to roll out Nitrokeys in our office (we support the administration of a public university in Germany) but we won't be able to spend much time on updating Nitrokeys by ourselves. Hey Victor, no sorry, this is currently not possible with Windows. This is due to a very restrictive Windows policy, so far we know most of other tokens suffer from the same drawback within Windows. This restriction is not enforced on Linux systems. Generally there is also no need to strictly update with each version, we try to keep the stable firmware as mature as possible so that it's rarely really needed to update.
